The contemporary art world is abuzz with the recent exhibition of Takashi Murakami’s work at The Broad in Los Angeles. Among the standouts are key paintings, sculptures and immersive environments from different points in Murakami’s career. These include the iconic 1999 sculptural installation “DOB in the Strange Forest (Blue DOB),” a wall scroll collaboration with fashion house Louis Vuitton from 2003, and an entire room engulfed in Murakami-designed wallpaper, complete with two flower paintings and a flowering plant-like sculpture (“Flower Matango (b)”) from 2001-2006. This is a must-see exhibition for any fan of contemporary art, so be sure to check it out if you’re in the Los Angeles area.

Takashi Murakami also launched a new augmented reality (AR) experience as part of his exhibition at The Broad in Los Angeles. The contemporary artist is partnering with Spark AR, Instagram, and BUCK to create an immersive experience that will connect his paintings and sculptures with the metaverse and virtual realities.

This AR exhibition is part of a larger trend of contemporary artists using technology to engage with their audience. For Murakami, this event presents an opportunity to explore how his work can exist in a digital space. His characters will step out of their physical forms and into a ghostly digital existence, offering viewers a glimpse into what the future may hold for Murakami’s art.

Those interested in experiencing the exhibition can do so by using the Instagram app. By doing so, they will be able to see Murakami’s work in a whole new light and understand how contemporary art is evolving. (The Broad)
